Description and Story

This quiet and sneaky little void has been with me since she was first found under a dumpster behind the local post office back in the summer of 2009. She's been through so much with me, that she's been a part of my life longer than she hasn't been. More of my life has happened with her in it than without her. She's experienced countless moves to different homes and cities, the deaths of three of my previous cats, among whatever hardships she went through before we met. My mother was the one who found her, while I was at church in Elora performing my alter boy duties. When my father had dropped me off, back at my mum's place, there she was, sitting on the couch. She made herself right at home.

When she was young, she was much more rebellious and tempermental. Once, she had even escaped the house and came back two whole days later with *two* tabby tomcats! She defintely wanted to "live it up" in her youth. This desire for male attention isn't exclusive to other cats, however, because she's always been more attached to myself (and more inviting to male guests), than the female humans she's lived with, like my mother for example. Being motherly and protective has always been a part of her nature. She'd always be the one to lick my hair if it's wet after a shower, growl if there is a stranger outside the door, or keep my head warm at night.

Now in her old age, she's still very much that, but she is literally on top of me whenever she gets the chance, whether it's my lap, chest, back, legs, or glutes. She practically never leaves my bedroom unless it's time to eat or she has to use the litterbox. She spends her elder years following sunbeams and finding the most cozy spot to lounge. I can't imagine my life without her in it or without her by my side every night. She's been with me through my worst moments to make them a little better, and she's been with me through my best moments to make them even greater.

Rest in Peace

On 19 June 2025, Yoko passed away at home. Read her eulogy here.

Description and Story

Mr. Pirate is an extremely vocal, extroverted, and playful Maine Coon that forced his way into my life at only a few months old in the spring of 2013. My mother and I were visiting a friend's farm when all of the sudden, this cat jumped out of the bushes and ran right up to us, marking us and meowing non-stop. The friend had told us that she had seen him around lately and thought that he had been abandoned due to his needy nature. He's always been raring to play and he's constantly full of energy.

As he's gotten older, he hasn't really changed. He's still got the heart and mind of an innocent little kitten that's both fascinated and terrified of the world. He acts tough, but he's really a big scaredy-cat. He loves being outside (albeit supervised), and he'll go on walks with me around the yard and through the park. He'll occasionally try to push his luck and test his limits, but then he'll come right running right back to me when something startles him. Whenever we go out, I'll always keep a bag of his favourite treats on me, to encourage and reward his good behaviour. He tries to play with Yoko all the time, yet she is rarely enthused, because he can be quite rough. Despite that, however, right after their fights, they'll groom each other and occasionally agree to actually share the bed or shelf as opposed to fighting over the same spot.

Somehow, he keeps his white paws perfectly clean, despite all the digging he does when I take him outside. He is terrified of dogs, yet tries to befriend raccoons and skunks. Most of his time outside is spent with his head crammed into a bush and chewing on grass. He's always there for me, and when I'm feeling down, he'll always approach me with his tail erect, rubbing up against me while trilling, and then falling over to expose his super soft abdomen, tempting me to pet it. He's truly my little buddy!
